Fee relief for outdoor exercising

PUMPING iron, star jumping andother outdoor activities have just got a lot cheaper for Wollondilly shire residents after fees for personal training dropped recently.

After an extended stoush between personal trainers and Wollondilly Council, as well as a campaign by the Macarthur Chronicle, personal trainers will now save $200 a year on fees paid to the council.

The council originally voted in April to charge group fitness trainers (boot camp training which is limited to 25 people) $250 for six weeks’ use of public parks.

Individual personal training sessions (one-on-one) were to cost $32 for a one-off two-hour session, while a year’s permit was $300.

As of June 21, personal trainers will now be charged only $100 per year – sparing their clients a steep increase in fees.

Wollondilly Council facilities and recreation manager Adam Gray said the $100 fee would be for a trial 12-month period.

‘‘This brings it in line with the mobile personal trainer fee that is applied at neighbouring local government areas, with conditions

being for the submission of appropriate insurances and qualifications, up to a maximum of four participants, and formal bookings

being required for regular use of council facilities,’’ he said. ‘‘Fees for boot camp activities and larger groups remain unchanged.’’

Tahmoor Gym UFO owner and personal trainer Jaime Horner commended the council in coming to a reasonable agreement over

the fees. ‘‘Now I can take a client outside when they want. In the spring and summer months the parks in Wollondilly are a nice

place to exercise,’’ he said.
