Skills Alliance helps enterprises grow staff & business
The QLD Fitness, Sport and Recreation Alliance is delighted to be helping Queensland enterprises grow their business by brokering subsidised training for staff through the Productivity Places Program (PPP).
The PPP is a joint initiative of the federal and state governments. It provides additional training places in areas where there are skills shortages so that workers develop the skills they need to stay employed and be more productive.
David De Rose, Manager of Reps Fitness & Performance in Cairns has been delighted with the outcomes for his business. David was researching a fitness provider for a number of his casual employees to upskill to Personal Trainers and found PPP offered through the Skills Alliance. Now, having completed the subsidised training, he says the benefits have been immediate.
"PPP made my employees goals of becoming certified Personal Trainers a genuine reality much earlier than we had expected," he explains. "The flexibility of being able to 'earn while you learn' with online training courses has further enhanced the experience."
The cost savings allowed David to grow his business quickly.
"Having large sums of money available for employee development was always going to be a challenge. The subsidy made the long-term prospect of upskilling my workforce an immediate reality. It's been the catalyst to the expansion of my business."
Lee Brabin of Suncoast Fitness Health Club also found the subsidy through the Skills Alliance to be of great benefit.
"Our two staff members have both saved a lot of money out their own pocket, and for us the fees were significantly reduced to put each of them through this training", says Lee. "It would cost us triple that to bring a new employee in, with all the advertising and training costs and downtime. It's fantastic value."
Through PPP, Suncoast chose to upskill two key employees to perform fitness work with customers. Page
"They are both still studying at the moment but their whole motivation of coming to work now is great because they are not just selling," enthuses Lee.
"They understand the bigger picture in the fitness business and can now do things like fitness assessments. They're actively helping out the personal trainers and really looking at members who they think can benefit from personal training and referring them on."
