More about Submitting a Program

Allocation of CECs

Continuing Education Credits (CECs) are awarded based on the content of the program. The program is assessed and allocated points according to the continuing educational value of the program. The value is expressed in units of time therefore one CEC represents one hour of education.

The final decision concerning the number of CECs allocated to any program lies with the Fitness Australia assessor. However, there are some general benchmarks that are employed when awarding CECs:

Face-to-Face Programs

  • In general 1 CEC is awarded for one tuition hour (assessments and breaks are not included in this calculation)
  • There are a maximum of 15 CECs awarded for programs of more than 15 hours
  • Non-assessed programs will be awarded 50% of a similar assessed program and calculated as above

Distance/Online programs

  • CECs are awarded at the rate of 1 CEC per study hour with a maximum of 15 CECs for extended programs taking 15 hours or more
  • Non-assessed programs will be awarded 50% of a similar assessed program and calculated as above

Certificates of Completion

Program providers must issue Certificates of Completion to program participants who have met all course requirements including assessments where appropriate. The certificates must include the following information:

  • Provider name
  • Participant's full name
  • Program name
  • Delivery/completion date
  • CEC Code
  • Number of CECs
  • Fitness Australia Approved Program Logo

Certificates which do not display this information may not be accepted by Fitness Australia when used for renewal purposes.

Fitness Australia Assessors

Fitness Australia assessors are selected from a range of Exercise Professionals, Medical and Allied Health Professionals, Educators, Business Professionals and Experts in specialty fields.

All Fitness Australia assessors are appropriately qualified and registered in their respective professions and have attained considerable experience in their fields of expertise. Further they hold the Certificate IV Training and Assessment certification (or the Certificate IV Assessment and Workplace Training). Fitness Australia assessors have all signed a confidentiality agreement to ensure that the intellectual property of the program providers is protected. Fitness Australia nominates the most appropriate assessor for each individual program based on the course content and the experience of the assessor.

The anonymity of the assessor is a cornerstone of the assessment process ensuring impartiality of the evaluation. Under no circumstances will the assessor details be disclosed to the program provider.

Appeals Process

In the event a program is rejected by a Fitness Australia assessor, the provider may ask for a second opinion by a Senior Assessor. If the Senior Assessor agrees with the first assessor, the program will remain non-approved.

Should the Senior Assessor disagree with the original assessor, the program will be approved. A provider electing to access the appeals process will be charged an additional fee for this service.

Random Audits

As part of the ongoing quality control process, Fitness Australia conducts random audits of programs that have been approved for delivery. It is a condition of the application for approval that the provider allows access free of charge to a Fitness Australia nominated person to conduct the audit if requested. This nominated person should not be identified to the presenter (if not the program provider contact), assessor (if not the program provider contact) or other participants of the program. Finally, the nominated person must be given the same documentation including a Certificate of Completion, as other program participants.

Complaint Audits

In the event that Fitness Australia receives a substantiated, valid complaint from a course participant, Fitness Australia will conduct an audit. It is a condition of the application process that program providers agree to this process.

Cost for submitting your program

The program approval fee is based on a cost for administration, assessment and profiling of the program, activity or event.
