Fitness Australia's Board of Directors

The Board is Fitness Australia's linkage to the fitness industry. The Board is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the organisation within a framework of prudent and effective controls and establishing the organisation's vision, mission, values and standards of conduct in the interests of industry members, stakeholders and the communities in which it operates. It has an obligation to fulfill fiduciary responsibilities, guard against undue risk, determine governing policies and program priorities and monitor and assess executive performance. Paul Kinghorn (Chairman) | Equilibrium Health Clubs

Paul has over 25 years experience within the fitness industry, including experience as an instructor, manager and owner of multi-site businesses. Paul's former experience in the health and hospital sector has also provided him with a thorough understanding of the health benefits that the fitness industry can deliver to the community.

Paul has extensive governance experience within the industry and is currently the Chairman of the Regional Industry Council in Victoria.

 Andrew Nairn (Deputy Chairman) | Flinders OneFitness

Andrew is currently the General Manager and Director of Flinders Campus Community Services Inc and represents Flinders OneFitness. Andrew has strong governance and commercial experience with a qualification and background in accounting as well as skills and experience within the hospitality, fitness and recreation sectors.

Recent experience includes a background within the not-for-profit and community fitness area within a mix of community and commercial fitness facilities.

Susan Kingsmill | Hiscoes Fitness Centre

Susan has owned and operated Hiscoes Fitness Centre since 1981 and is highly regarded within the industry. Through her knowledge and experience, Susan is able to represent the issues of small business and independent operators within the fitness industry whilst always embracing ‘big picture' strategies.

Susan has extensive experience on several Boards including serving as Chairman of the Fitness Australia Board for five years.

Greg Oliver | Goodlife Health Club

 

Greg is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Goodlife Health Clubs. Greg has over 30 years experience in the fitness industry which involves owning, managing and operating health clubs. He has had experience on various Boards including Corpfit Holdings and the Belgravia Health & Leisure Group.

Greg has a broad range of experience in the both the commercial and corporate sectors of the fitness industry. One of Greg’s goals is to improve the credibility and perception of the fitness industry within government and the community.

Gregory Hurst | Australian Institute of Fitness

Greg has been involved with the fitness industry for many years and has been responsible for the development of many successful industry enterprises. Greg has also volunteered his time and expertise to assist with the development of the fitness industry over many years, particularly in relation to professional registration and accreditation.

He is currently a Director of the Australian Institute of Fitness, the Chairman of the Australian Fitness Network and a Director of Healthy Inspirations. He has numerous qualifications including a Diploma of Physical Education, Diploma of Health Education, Diploma of Management and Certificate III and IV in Fitness. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Dr Robbie Parker | The Children's Hospital at Westmead

Robbie is well known and highly regarded within the fitness industry for his work as a Sports Scientist, teacher and mentor. He is currently the Head, Children's Hospital Institute of Sports Medicine at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Robbie's extensive contribution to the Board is evidenced by his vast experience, technical knowledge and expertise.

Gregory Will | PricewaterhouseCoopers

Greg is a Partner, Chartered Accountant and National Head of Management Consulting for Private Clients at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney and has worked in professional practice for over 18 years. In addition he is a Registered Fitness professional and personal trainer with extensive experience in the fitness industry.

He is an experienced director of not for profit and for profit boards and this together with his knowledge in business advisory, audit, tax and corporate finance in Australia and internationally allows him to provide a wide range of business, financial and governance advice to Fitness Australia.

Dr Melainie Cameron | Australian Catholic University

Melainie is Associate Professor of the School of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy), a Master of Health Science and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Victoria University. She is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Member of Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) as well as a Registered Osteopath.

Melainie has extensive experience in academia, education, research and clinical practise.

David Allan | Fitness First

David is the Central Operations Director for Fitness First Australia. He has been employed with Fitness First Australia since it’s inception in Australia and has fulfilled a number of executive posts including Development Director for seven years followed by Operations Director for 2 years.

David has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement and has 23 years experience in the fitness industry. David has amassed a wealth of knowledge throughout the broad fitness and leisure sector giving him a unique understanding of the business of fitness.
