Industry Innovation
Building Fitness Australia's capacity to achieve a fitter, healthier Australia
Leadership through advocacy
Advocacy is an important part of Fitness Australia's day-to-day activities whether it is meeting with government ministers, representing the organisation and the fitness industry, making submissions, releasing policy documents, sitting on external committees or participating in industry, government and business forums.
Our goal is to interact proactively with policymakers and government advisors to ensure that Fitness Australia is highly regarded and that the fitness industry is recognised as a significant contributor to achieving government objectives in preventative healthcare and other areas of strategic importance to the industry.
We want to be more actively involved in exploring, developing and shaping policy on issues that are likely to affect members and the fitness industry. Our longer-term goal is to achieve legislative, regulatory and policy outcomes that are of benefit to the members and the fitness industry.
To do this effectively, we need to establish a special fund that invests in building the capacity of Fitness Australia to achieve its advocacy goals.
Leadership through connection
The Industry Innovation Fund has been developed to connect and unite the fitness industry around common policy objectives. Connection and unity leads to greater levels of power and influence. Advocacy success leads to greater prosperity for all involved.
The leadership team
Respublica Public Relations
Fitness Australia has commissioned Respublica Public Relations to advise on government relations strategies and assist with the formation of key political networks.
Respublica executives have extensive experience in dealing with governments and bureaucracies at local, state and federal levels. They have a strong track record of achieving legislative, regulatory and policy outcomes on behalf of clients and have a particularly strong focus on treasury/finance, health, corporate governance and consumer affairs-related matters. For more information go to www.respublica.com.au.
In the last twelve months, Respublica has been the recipient of two, prestigious PR industry awards for public relations and public affairs activity. The key contacts are Gabriel McDowell and Armon Hicks.
Fitness Australia Executive Management Team
Members of the Executive Management Team of Fitness Australia are the key points of contact for advocacy work. All three members of the team, Lauretta Stace, Robert Barnes and Craig Knox, are highly experienced association executives with a broad range of skills and experience in stakeholder consultation, industry representation, issues management and government lobbying.
Industry financial investment
An investment in effective advocacy goes beyond an annual membership fee with Fitness Australia. The annual membership fee provides Fitness Australia with the capacity to deliver a range of valued services, benefits and programs to industry members and professionals. It also allows for the delivery of basic advocacy work, such as development of submissions, relationship building and representation at industry and government forums.
However, we want to take a LEADING ROLE in advocacy and to do this we need additional investment in advocacy activities. This additional investment will provide Fitness Australia with the capacity to be more actively involved in exploring, developing and shaping policy on issues that are likely to affect members and the fitness industry. Through effective lobbying and advocacy we can achieve longer term legislative, regulatory and policy outcomes that are of benefit to the members and the fitness industry.
